Ibiza is a small island just 45kms wide and 25kms long, one of the Spanish Balearic Islands just 2hrs away from the UK on a cheap Thomas Cook flight.

It is an Island of contrast in its appeal as it makes an ideal relaxing destination for those wanting a quiet holiday on one of its 30 or more beaches yet it is also well known for being one of the hottest places in Europe for the club scene.

Ibiza has a rich history and like the other Balearic Islands, Majorca and Minorca, it has been invaded by a number of different settlers over the decades. The Carthaginians, the Greeks, the Romans, the Arabs and the Catalans, have all left their mark on the Island. Napoleon was born on a small island just off the San Antonio coast. Since the Catalan conquest in the thirteenth century Ibiza has remained under Spanish control and largely unaffected by world political events. Most of the architectural influences of the Romans and Arabs are long gone, but you can still find some of the Pirate towers that were built along the coastline to protect the islanders from the frequent raids. Towers would send signals between one another to warn islanders of impending danger allowing them to seek shelter.

As you would imagine with all the different cultures the Island is rich in folklore and in fact the Phoenicians believed the island to be blessed by gods and have magical powers. The small island of Es Vedra, rising from the waters off the Ibiza coast supports no living thing. The Carmelite priest Don Francisco Palau recorded mystical revelations and meetings with 'unearthly beings surrounded by light' while meditating there and gigantic circles of light rise from the sea which have discouraged fishermen from this area. A strong magnetic force is said to emanate from Es Vedra, attracting unexplained phenomena.

Over a decade ago, rappers Chuck D and Public Enemy asked, "Who Stole the Soul?" Today, after Christina Aguilera's R&B-infused Back To Basics double CD and the Amy Winehouse soul explosion, the real question is, "Who stole it back?" Part of the answer can be found in Lorraine Reid's single "How Can I Keep Him Lovin' Me?"

It always comes as a surprise when I hear a modern R&B singer who has both the pipes to belt out with intensity and the good taste to let the song tell the story, choosing to not over-saturate a classic melody with vocal gymnastics. Reid dazzles her listeners with the perfect balance of vocals, just like the classic soul, rock and pop singers did back in the day. This timeless track by the Canadian, 7-time Juno nominee would fit right in with the best of soul and funk in any age.

"How Can I Keep Him Lovin' Me?" begins to amaze listeners with its instrumentals -- the keyboard starts with mellow soul chords and is followed by gently plucked guitar and sparse bass that flows with restrained energy even while in ballad mode. The drums play a beat that has previously anchored old pop and soul songs as well as bawdy stripper show tunes; it's a beat that is part-waltz, part-easy-going phat back groove. While this stew is bubbling, Ms. Reid tells the story: "No more than 15 but grown before her time / This young girl was seekin' love from men who would dim the lights / How can I keep him lovin' me? / Here she was still seeking love / it was no where to be found." Aside from the modern beat of the drums and the contemporary soul sound, the track is undeniably old school because it deals with real people and real-life issues, concepts that are often lost in mainstream music today.

The sales of R&B records -- as with those of hip-hop and most other genres -- continue to slump. Illegal downloads aside, the vast majority of these records deal with unattainable fantasies of sex, glamour, white linen suits and matching Bentleys. People who have just been laid off, had their benefits run out, or their home foreclosed don't want to hear about such lavish topics. And they can't even afford to buy overpriced CDs, anyway. That's why real people, especially women, like Mary J. Blige's tales of being a survivor. Like Blige, Reid tells a tale of survival and, like the best soul and gospel singers, past and present, she goes beyond this simple tale: "At 22, a mom of two, but she was still a child / Her mama's advice to her was a message meek and mild / what this baby boy sees in you I tried my whole life to find / so dry your tears, my baby girl, you're lookin' at piece of mind." Throughout the song, Reid's vocals follow the lyrics and melody on a rollercoaster of emotion, saving the soaring peaks of her sweet yet powerful voice for the pinnacles of the song, especially the last lines. By the end of "How Can I Keep Him Lovin' Me?", the sadness becomes both redemption and a spiritual epiphany -- all because of the power of love. Now ain't that what soul music is all about?

Q: What attracted you to the resort? Tracy: The Aman brand initially attracted me the resort and then when I can over to Bali for the interview I fell in love with the architecture, the people and the Balinese way of life.

Q: Any reason to call resort "Amankila"? Tracy: Aman means 'Peace' in Sanskrit and Kila is hill - therefore Amankila means 'Peaceful Hill'.

Q: Tell us something about the resort, location, how to get there, and the place itself? Tracy: The resort is set on a cliff edge overlooking the Lombok Strait on the East Coast of Bali. A majority of the suites have wonderful views out towards the ocean.

The resort is just over an hours drive from the International Airport and it's located in a very traditional part of Bali. The wonderful part of Amankila is that it has a mixture of the best parts of Bali - it has it's own private beach, wonderful snorkeling and diving areas and being in East Bali it also benefits from the real-side of Bali where you get to see the farmers tending to the rice fields daily and it really does take you back hundreds of years.

Q: Your welcome message and philosophy? Tracy: My Welcome Message to all guests is to ensure that they have a magical stay at Amankila and to invite them to experience some of the many delights that East Bali has to offer..

Q: Can you please give us a guided tour, explain the concept, what was important when creating this resort, atmosphere? Tracy: The atmosphere at Amankila is extremely peaceful. We are set on 8 hectors of land and with only 33 suites we have enough space for each guest to feel like they are the only guest.

Days can be spent relaxing on the beach or around one of the many pools, or guests can be adventurous and can go trekking or cycling through the rice fields or go on a cruise around the East Coast on one of our 2 boats.

Q: All resorts furniture has obviously been painstakingly selected, tell us something about the interior design? Tracy: The resorts architect is a gentleman called Ed Tuttle who is based in France. Mr Tuttle not only designed the resort, he also designed all of the interiors. Having one person do both ensures that there is a flow throughout the entire resort.

He also designed the furniture and even which types of flowers we should use.

Q: What is the culinary experience like, range of restaurants, an "Amankila special"? Tracy: There are 3 restaurants at Amankila:

Q: How is your season so far? Tracy: Bali is having a fantastic year, infact 2007 was the busiest the Island has ever been and 2008 is looking to be even stronger.

For Amankila we have started off the year very well and are looking forward to a very busy high season in July and August.

Q: Word about Aman resorts, future projects? Tracy: Aman Resorts is 20 years old this year. Amanpuri in Thailand was our first resort closely followed by Amandari in Bali. Amankila was the third Aman to open and is 16 years old this year.

It seems that street dance is becoming more and more popular in the UK. Lots of dance styles have had their turn in the spotlight over the years and it looks like it is the turn of street dance at the moment.

But what exactly is street dance? And what can you expect to learn in a street dance class in London? The London scene is very different to many other countries and it's worth exploring.

Street dance classes often teach street dance routines which loosely take dance moves from a variety of dance styles which may include hip-hop dance, locking, popping, street jazz and jazz amongst others. It can also include acrobatics when danced in dance troupes and can fuse with other styles very different from street dance such as contemporary too.

In fact looking at the term more closely, 'street dance' is more an umbrella term encompassing all these dance styles and many more. Different people have different opinions on what constitutes street dance. For example some people would also put dance styles such as the breakin' and the crip walk under the street dance categories whilst others would not.

So if you see a dance class advertised as street dance you can expect to learn dance routines which are very similar to hip-hop dance and including elements of the other styles, but not necessarily to hip-hop music. Whereas most of the time a hip-hop dance class will have routines to hip-hop or R&B music for the most part.

There are other clues for what you might expect form a street dance class in London. Sometimes 'street' will be followed by another name. For example 'street jazz' would combine street and jazz, 'street locking' would be lockin' and 'street urban' would be similar to hip hop dance or urban dance.

The term 'street dance' is popularly used in the UK and a number of other countries. So if you decide that you want to start going to some street dance classes it's helpful to know what style of street dance you want to learn.

But in many large cities there are a number of underground dance studios quietly doing their business with very high standards of dancers.

So how can you find out about these dance studios that not many people have heard about? Well for the most part you find out about them by getting involved in the dance industry and making friends with other dancers. Many times you'll find out about them by going to the popular dance studios and meeting other dancers there who also go to these underground dance studios.

A lot of these underground dance studios will specialise in only a handful of dance studios which is not surprising since they are not mainstream. Since forever bboys and bgirls have had meetups where they just find an area where they can practise.

There are lots of these underground dance studios that specialise in hip hop or locking and popping. Especially in the inner cities, where people are just doing their own thing.

Usually the more you get involved in a particular community the more you'll find about these places that dancers go to practise. Many times they'll have teachers there who are teaching dance classes. Sometimes you can find out about them just by participating in online forums or hanging out with people who are heavily involved in the scene.

A lot of the time these underground places will be cheaper than the mainstream studios and you can get into some good dance classes for a lot cheaper.

You'll frequently find that these underground dance studios are the places that many dance companies or dance troupes might go for their dance rehearsals and the studios are not as expensive to hire. If you know anyone in a dance crew it's also worth asking where they practise as it may an underground place that a lot of people go to.

Also don't feel that it's the end of the world if you can't find an underground dance studio. There are plenty of dance studios and opportunities where you can learn many dance styles.

Let's start with the central issue. How good you sound is much more important than how good you look. This will sound like crazy talk to some but it's essentially true. Singing is an aural art form and your success as an artist will rest mostly on how well you communicate with your listener. The best visual presentation in the business will not help you if you sound like crap. Or put another way, a blind person will not think you are a great singer no matter how well you are dressed!

Many wonderful singers started out with only the very basics of a good singing voice, perhaps just the raw ability to sing confidently and more or less in tune. Along the way they learned to bring out the best in their voice and to create a kind of vocal charisma, a unique musical identity that is instantly recognizable to the listener.

Firstly, don't think of yourself as a singer. Think of yourself as a MUSICIAN. The human voice is merely an instrument like many others and it takes dedication and skill to use it effectively. If you want the kind of voice that will stop traffic, the kind of vocal range that lets you sing in almost any key, the sort of voice that most people would die for then you have to build it yourself. Lots of raw talent is not enough in most cases and it can sometimes be a disadvantage.

Why? Because it can make you a complacent low achiever and lead you to believe that the world revolves around you and the greatness you are destined to enjoy if only the world would listen. A great natural singing voice is one thing but it's what you DO with it that counts.

Expand your horizons in other musical directions. If you sing hip hop then try singing a bit of country or jazz. Force yourself out of your comfort zone into areas you know nothing about. Throw yourself into the deep end of the pool until you feel the water flow over your head! Most musical styles borrow on the same vocal techniques but differ in how they are applied. Your understanding of this can be applied to almost any contemporary musical style you wish.

Don't fall for the old lazy argument that you are an original artist and you don't want to dilute your 'sound' with outside influences. You must absorb all the information you can, pick as many brains as you can find, listen to the old players and try to figure out how they did what they did. If you have a favorite singer then learn everything you can from that person and then move on. Do not try to sound like them even if you can. You must learn to move beyond mere copying and into forming your own sound.

Initially no. What you should be doing is hanging out with other musicians, preferably better ones than you. Don't spend all your time with friends who are hacks with no intentions of doing anything meaningful with their music after the school holidays. This can be difficult if you have strong relationships with people you enjoy making music with but it is a necessary step in your musical education and growth. You must find great players to learn from. Most accomplished musicians actually enjoy mentoring young hopefuls with ability and drive. Finding some good players to learn from is the single most important thing you will ever do for your musical career.

Then, when you are ready, look to improve your vocal technique with some singing lessons. We can always use better technique but remember this. Vocal technique is important but it is a relatively small part of becoming a great singer. Most singing teachers teach similar techniques. They can correct technical problems and get you to sing exercises that help expand your range, improve your vocal control and agility which ultimately helps increase your confidence to sing. In an ideal world you will be able to find an excellent singing teacher right around the corner from where you live and you will be able to easily afford the lessons. This, unfortunately is not always the case.

Finding a singing teacher can be a difficult and time consuming problem. Don't forget that you are the one who decides if that teacher is right for you. It's important to have a rapport with that teacher. They need to be someone you can learn more from than just technique. Remember that 'musical judgment' I mentioned earlier? Find a singing teacher who can not only guide your vocal technique but can give you some insights into improving your musicianship, some advice in making those musical decisions.

Remember to be humble and realize that singing is an art that you can master with patience and great guidance. It's critical that this process brings out your own unique voice, not what your singing teacher wants, but the voice that you have inside of you.

If you cannot find a good singing teacher then consider doing an online singing course. Online singing lessons are more abundant now and there are a some good ones and some poor ones. Just steer clear of things like singing review sites - they usually recommend only the products they get commission for selling and are not to be trusted.

Above all, set your sights high but your expectations low. You must strive always to be better and not be afraid of change. Test yourself with new challenges and concepts, meet lots of like minded people and don't waste time. In my case I know some people who gets alienated in the hip hop culture, since they have no friends. These kinds of people always needs someone around them to show them the way. I never had that kind of cousin or brothers to show me the way. That way I feel that I failed comparing the mediocre standers the majority set. I made lots of mistakes like skipping classes and even passing my math exams drunk. I never knew how to choose the right friends, if they were hip hop fans I was willing to hang out with them. Some kids I knew they only were after the money and their older cousin or brother were cooking for them and they ran studios from houses. I feel like these studio rappers were the alienated ones, they never come out hanging and getting drunk in public with the regular kids like us. They truly got the house slave mentality and they never felt how much stressful it gets and how it feels one of your friends throw him self front of the train. These studio gangstas only know happy times. They do not know what it is like to grow up with no family around you.

And then you have these upper class brothers talking black supremacy, while their label owner is white. They never talked to a kid from the ghetto and they do not have the spine to set up their own labels to make a start of their career. Once this reminds me of the song of Gravediggaz song '12 Jewels'. It said the "old man from Sudan didn't knew the basic principles of the economy". Being your own boss that is the major economical achievement is about. Working for the white man and calling your self black activists and pumping your fist is just lack of awareness and political consciousness. In this modern society rappers are almost doomed to sell their soul to the labels, when a rappers is hungry he will be easily convinced by the A&R's and other record label people. I think the true potential of a socially, economically and politically aware artists does not where the money is running, but where the hearts of the hip hop fans are running. That is preserving of the hip hop culture as an authentic culture and reminding the fans what the true purpose of the hip hop culture is about, which is peace, love and unity. With these three keywords there is no alienation possible for the hip hop fans not even the majority alienates them.

Linkin Park's style combines old-school hip hop and classic rock with electronic vibes. Chester Bennington and the boys have been rockin' the eardrums of loyal fans for 8 years now! It wasn't easy and they had their fair share of trouble to deal with along the way.

Before they became known as Linkin Park, the boys called themselves Xero. Fresh out of high-school, the band practiced, recorded and produced songs in vocalist Mike Shinoda's bedroom recording studio. They found out the hard way that success doesn't come easy. These award wins helped to propel the band into the mainstream.

The boys of Linkin Park were becoming more and more popular by the day and within that first year, they performed over 300 concerts! They were invited to participate in several high-profile tours and concerts like Ozzfest and the Family Values Tour. Eventually, they started their own tour they called Projekt Revolution which featured Cypriss Hill, Snoop Dogg and Adema.

The band's second album, Meteora, was released in March of 2003. It shot to the top of the music charts, hitting the #1 spot in the US and UK and earning the #2 spot on the Australian charts. By October, the album had sold almost three million copies and spawned several hit singles and more music awards. A second Projekt Revolution was launched and groups such as Mudvayne and Blindside joined the tour. The boys were also invited to play with Metallica on their Summer Sanitarium Tour 2003.

By 2004, the band's relationship with Warner Brothers had soured and it took months of negotiations to get their contract back on track. Eventually though the details were ironed out and Linkin Park was back in business. They used their talent and fame to benefit those in need. They raised money for Hurricane Charlie and Hurricane Katrina victims as well as many other charitable organizations.

Linkin Park's third release was Minutes to Midnight, which debuted in 2007. Selling over 600,000 copies in the first week, and hitting the number one chart spot, this album was a huge success! The band's collection of awards grew even bigger after this album was released.

Next on the bands agenda? A follow-up to the Minutes To Midnight album after a U.S. Tour. In fact, Bennington told Rolling Stone Magazine that they're already working on the songs for the album. First though, the boys want to go on tour and get some inspiration. Fans say â€œHell Ya! Bring it on!â€

Analog vs. Digital:

An analog format such as vinyl records are said to be more accurate to the source of the music than digital formats, which convert the music into a digital format, before being converted back to analog for reproduction.

Vinyl records provide a more rich, warm tone than digital formats. The reason for this better tone is because the grooves on records provide more musical data to your amplifier. When the stylus (needle) fits into the groove of the record, it vibrates in such a way that is reminiscent of the soundwaves present when the artists performed the song. When amplified, you get a reproduction of the original performance.

When the musical data is converted into a digital format, there are various "resolutions". To use photos as an example, it would be the difference between a 100x100 pixel picture, and a 1000x1000 pixel picture. For CDs, it is 16-bit. For DVD Audio up to 24-bit. Then, there is a sample rate, which is how often these photos are taken. For CDs, they happen 44,100 times per second. DVD Audio, up to 192,000 times per second. For SACDs, an amazing 2,000,000+ samples per second. You can see how the more advanced digital formats would sound better than CDs, which is how most people listen to digital music.

In the case of digital formats like MP3 and AAC, some of the higher frequencies get pulled out to save space, in addition, these formats are taken from a CD, and compressed, so they could never approach the sound quality of a CD. I expect digital music formats to continue to gain in popularity, and I also expect even better formats to come out, with new digital format remasters, which could sound much better than a CD (Or even DVD-A or SACD), have more customization options, and of course, undisputed portability. How specifically vinyl sounds better:

Vinyl seems to reproduce the higher frequencies much better. On digital, high frequencies (voices, cymbals, drums, etc.) sound thinner, harsher, "swishy", simply not as good. On vinyl, these high frequencies sound more natural, less harsh, more "real". Also, very small high-pitched nuances shine through better, like for example when a bass player plucks a string.

Bass seems to sound fuller on vinyl as well. It sounds thicker, richer, more natural, more nuanced. It's nice. When listening to bass on vinyl, you'll know why so many DJs still use vinyl to this day. On digital, bass seems to be muddier, thinner...it has less impact.

It's true that vinyl does have some weaknesses, such as pops and hiss, but these are eliminated if the record is clean. The pops and hiss also add a nostalgic charm to the sound of the music. Some artists, especially hip hop, have incorporated this sound into their music.

Okay so you've finished your album so now its time to let the streets know about you. How do you do this? What is it? Well let me break it down for you.

First of all, before you do anything you should have identified your target market. These would be, in so many words, the people most likely to buy your music. You need to know as much about this market as you can.

Once you've found these people and finished your album you should let them know about your album. This will take some footwork and its not a short term plan. You need to have some flyers made. A flyer with some fancy graphics is great but a flyer with text on it is good enough to get the job done. Get as many flyers made that your budget calls for (yes, you need a budget). Then go to the places where your target market hangs out. This could be clubs, restaurant, obviously record stores, health food store, etc.

What most street promoters do is put flyers under the windshield wipers or in the door jams of the cars in the parking lots of clubs. Sometimes you might get chased away by a property owner so if they tell you there's no soliciting, just leave. Most of the time you won't have that problem, but if you do, just go to the next venue. On any promotional material, always make sure you put your contact information on it so that people can connect with you. You'll miss out on some opportunities if you don't.

And make sure you put on there where they can buy your music and have some samples of it on you. I learned that one the hard way! I ran into the Hip hop legend Scarface once and I gave him a flyer. He said, "I hear you talkin' bout the music but I don't hear it. Where's yo CD?"

I'm glad I had one in the car or else I would've looked really amateur.

Always keep samples while you're out! The key to this strategy is to use repeat marketing. This means that you have to hit those same spots and keep promoting your music more than once. Your budget is going to dictate how many flyers you can distribute.

You will meet a lot of people while you are out so make sure you have a pen and paper or some way to collect contact information. You will never know who you'll run into on the street. Now this may take a while to generate a buzz but let's look at it from a numbers perspective:

Let's say you have an opportunity to run a full page ad in a major rap magazine like The Source or Vibe. Well let's throw out a cost of $30,000 for the ad. Okay so you got a nice beautiful ad that will ONLY RUN ONE TIME in the magazine.

Plus people will generally respond to a marketing message over period of time. Research shows that it takes approximately 7 times so that ad ain't gonna cut it. On the other hand if you had invested that 30 grand in street promotions you could have hit your target market at least those 7 times and then some. Do the math! Pop is short for popular, and it's remained the defining term for the ever-changing music favoured by the public. Although not specifically applied until the middle of the 20th century, pop music as such can be traced by a few decades before that.

The Early Days

You could say that the songs of music hall were the first real pop songs, written by professionals and widely performed for audiences. That dates back to the Victorian era, when a performer needed a catchy, identifiable song.

Things changed with the advent of recording, early in the 20th century. With that, music had the chance to be much more widely disseminated. Records, played at 78 rpm on wind-up gramophones, were relatively cheap.

In America, that led to a breed of professional songwriters in New York who wrote pieces intended to be recorded and sell well - Tin Pan Alley. They were largely hacks, but did produce some beautiful material. London had its own equivalent as the music business became centred on Denmark Street in the West End.

The Crooners

The first major pop stars as such were the crooners of the 1930s and '40s. Bing Crosby sold millions of records, as did Frank Sinatra (arguably the first modern pop star, with screaming teenage female fans - the bobbysoxers), and in Britain, Al Bowly.

They recorded and performed with full orchestras in the main style of the day. But there were other vocals groups, such as the Mills Brothers and the Inkspots, whose harmonies set the standards for those aspiring to fame.

With the style known as swing, big bands also came into their own, with tunes like Glen Miller's "In The Mood" becoming standards.

The Charts

Curiously, pop music charts as such didn't exist until 1952, when the first Top Twenty was recorded. It came at an interesting time, as "teenagers" really came into being. Historically there'd been no transitional period between childhood and adulthood. Now, after World War II, that seemed to begin, imported from America, and in skiffle, an interpretation of American folk music (personified by Lonnie Donegan), teens found their music.

Rock'n'roll brought much more of that, and Elvis Presley became a global star, the biggest of the late 1950s and early 1960s. But he would find himself supplanted by the Beatles, who revolutionised pop by writing their own material, instigating a fashion that remains undiminished.

The Beatles set the standard for pop music, and it remains undiminished - Beatlesque has become a standard descriptive adjective. From 1962 until their break up in 1970 they dominated the charts in Britain and America.

Post Beatles

The Beatles influenced a generation - more than one, really - with their melodies and harmonies, and that was apparent in the 1970s, when pop careened through several styles, from the Glam Rock of T. Rex to the raw fire of punk. But the biggest pop star to emerge from the period was a singer and pianist, Elton John, whose popularity has remained constant.

The idea of artists writing their own material remained in the wake of the Fab Four, although professional songwriters stayed in demand for those unable to pen a tune. From the early days of rock there had been "manufactured" stars - people taken on board for a pretty face rather than any innate talent, and made into stars by producers. It had happened to Adam Faith, Alvin Stardust and many others, most of whom only enjoyed short careers.

The 1980s proved a moribund decade for pop. Styles came and went, but it was an era short on memorable music. Only Wham! (and later George Michael) emerged as true pop stars.

Boy Bands

The 1990s was the time of boy bands, perhaps the ultimate in manufactured acts. A group of young male singers was assembled for their looks, given catchy songs and arrangements and pushed to fame. It happened to East 17 and, most memorably, Take That. America saw how it worked and gave the world the Backstreet Boys and 'N Sync, and for a few years it worked very well, selling millions of records. But like any fashion, it passed. A female version, the Spice Girls, was briefly huge. Notably, the only ones to come out of this and sustain a solo career was Robbie Williams from Take That and Justin Timberlake from 'N Sync.

America tried a similar tactic with female pop stars, and both Mariah Carey and Britney Spears became massive manufactured stars, followed, to a lesser degree, by Christina Aguilera.

The New Millennium

Since the year 2000 there's been a dearth of major new stars, relying mostly on established talent. Several younger artists have come and gone, and new styles have briefly emerged, but nothing appears to have gained a major foothold besides modern R&B, which owes little to its soulful predecessor, but a lot to hip-hop - which itself has become a pop style.

BIBLICAL ROLE OF WOMEN (HOME, CHURCH, SOCIETY) PART 6: CLEAN AND UNCLEAN, DRESS AND ORNAMENTS In the name of Jehovah God, Master of the universe, Ruler of the earth.

Peace to the righteous and those that willfully reject God and to those who reject God out of ignorance. Is there a difference in those ignorant of God and those who know God but do not believe? Thanks be to God our Father which art in heaven. We are eternally grateful for the Savior Jesus Christ and for sending us the Holy Spirit.

Do believers have the responsibility to know what is clean and what is unclean with God? "There was a man who stood as the head of his house. He did not allow those that were unclean in dress and of spirit to enter his house without a move to clean their outward body. However after this was done, he sought to render the inner cleanness of the Truth of God."

"Meanwhile there was a Preacher man who headed a church. He allowed all types of people of unclean nature to enter the House of God. Although the Church is a hospital for the Spiritual Sick, this Preacher man did not acknowledge that many of these people were unclean and sick. We saw him with a priority of gaining material (money) possessions and not a priority of saving souls."

In the Bible the idea of clean and unclean is not identical to the modern notion of sanitary and unsanitary. Impurity can be physical, ritual or moral. Uncleanness is especially opposed to holiness, and so Old Testament law attempted to separate the unclean from the holy.

Priests were obligated to distinguish between the holy and the profane and the clean from the unclean. They were also obligated to teach Israel the laws of purity to avoid offending God's holiness. (See Leviticus 10:10-11, Ezekiel 22:26, 44:23). Ancient Israel's purity laws were concerned with the nation's relationship with God. Holy and unclean were incompatible. For example uncleanness was considered infectious or contagious.

Purity laws also regulated other areas of life where boundaries became blurred. For example adultery, incest, bestiality and homosexuality were forbidden. (See Leviticus 18:6-23, 20:10-21). There is also evidence that the notion of clean or unclean also served as a symbolic way to describe moral or ethical categories. In Isaiah 6:5 "unclean lips," stood for sinfulness. In Psalms 24:4 "clean hands and pure hearts," were symbols of moral uprightness.

Meanwhile we see consistently in the Old Testament that Jewish purity laws were for Jews. However, the Gospel was/is for Jews and Gentiles. We will as we continue this series look at particular references in the New Testament that apply to women and purity laws. For example Gentiles preferred to understand clean and unclean primarily as ethical categories. (See Acts 10:15, 15:19-29).

In the New Testament we also saw Jesus criticizing Jewish purity laws and allowed his disciples to violate them (Mark 7:1-23). Jesus touched and healed those who were ritually unclean. He healed lepers Mark 1:40-45, Luke 17:11-19. He healed the woman with a hemorrhage Mark 5:25-34. Jesus also associated with known sinners as he witnessed to them about His Father. Also in the New Testament clean and unclean is often linked to the authority of Jesus and the meaning of his death and resurrection (See Mark 1:27, Galatians 2:15-21).

Attire in the church is very important. Proper attire is necessary for men and women. However, this discussion has an expressed mission to note certain realties about women in the Bible. Women gradually progressed in personal dress and decorations from Eve's day to the time of Isaiah; we see an extensive wardrobe and jewelry. Some Bible historians argue that the modern woman would find it hard to match the feminine attire of women 2,000 years ago. In Isaiah 3:16 we see that the Prophet warns the women about extravagance. In Isaiah 47:2 we see that women even dressed up to grind meal.

There is much confusion today about the style and dress of women and men in the church. Hebrew women were forbidden to wear the same clothing as men. (See Deuteronomy 22:5). What of make-up and how much should a woman use/wear. We said women here and not men. However the world and the church are so defiled that men and women are putting color in their hair and using make-up.

Should women paint eyelids, pluck out eyebrows to enhance beauty? Are the women that do this noted in the Bible as a device unworthy of God-fearing women? Just how much make-up should women use? All make-up is not unworthy but how do you decide what is good and what is bad? The treacherous Jezebel painted her eyes to trap Samson. (See 11 Kings 9:30).

In the Bible men and women wore ear rings. Is this one of the reasons many men think that it is Hip (HOP) to wear ear rings today? Do you honestly believe that any reasonable percentage of the male ear ring people have any knowledge of the Bible? Women today and even some men are also wearing rings on other places of their bodies. Nose rings and rings were often worn on the toes and anklets of women during Biblical times. (See Isaiah 3:18).

For the record why do the Preachers (Are they Hip-Hop Preachers) allow the body piercing and ear rings among men in the Church? Why don't Preachers ever preach about tattooing and piercing? What does the Bible say about this question? See Leviticus 19:28 and 21:5. "Ye shall not make any cutting in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the Lord."

So where is the Godly woman? The woman of God is noted in Proverbs. What is the Godly woman?

It's natural that when you idolise the singers and great bands on TV you want to be able to dance like them too. Whether that pop star is Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears or Missy Elliot when they dance it just looks so cool. So which dance school can you go to learn to dance like your favourite pop and hip-hop stars?

Well that actually depends who you want to dance like. The best thing to do is go to a local open dance studio. They'll have many different dance classes, all in different dance styles and with different names from 'Urban Flow' to 'Jazz.' You'll probably find some of them are very similar to the pop stars you like, some of them may not be but you'll still probably want to dance like them!

There are lots of different classes that look very different. Some of the dance teachers may even draw influence in their dancing from the artists and choreographers that you like as well.

If you're looking to go into a full-time dance college to get your professional training there are many more dance colleges these days that offer a strong jazz dance base and hip-hop and other street dance styles as part of their syllabus. These are the dance styles a lot of pop and R&B stars are using these days.

Whether you choose to go to one of these dance schools of course is your choice. For example if you're already good at the pop-video style dancing you might choose to learn another skill and go to a dance school that specialises in contemporary dance for example.

When you pop into a dance studio many of the classes will be danced to a lot of the popular music that you'll hear on radio stations and so will more than likely be the type of dancing you will want to learn.

Any time you go to a dancing school where you attend on a regular basis you want to make sure that you'll be learning the type of dance you want to learn. There's nothing worse than being enrolled in a dance school that you hate!

If you go to open dance classes at a dance studio it won't matter of course as you can go to any dance class you want as they're usually pay as you go dance classes.

It should also be noted that whilst they have nothing to do with dancing like a pop star most of the time, classes such as ballet can also provide a good dancing technique which can help you with other dancing styles as well.

This past week I was fortunate to check out a new line of toys geared towards toddlers who love hip hop music. The toy is called, "Baby Jamz Music Crew" and will be available at Walm-Mart®. There's even a Baby Jamz music CD available.

From what I gather, the creator, Matthew Knowles, was inspired by his grandson, Julez, to create a product line that reflected the interests of today's kids. The music CD contains some old favorites set to hip hop beats and is rather entertaining. In fact, I found my thirteen year old daughter playing the CD while browsing YouTube the other day. There are thirteen songs on the CD:

1. Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star 2. Wheels On The Bus 3. Hush Little Baby 4. Brahm's Lullaby 5. There Was An Old Lady That Lived In A Shoe 6. Buckle My Shoe 7. Bingo 8. Mary Had A Little Lamb 9. Old MacDonald 10. Skip To My Lou 11. This Old Man 12. Three Little Kittens 13. Mary Mary Quite Contrary

The toys have a great concept: match the bottom of the figurines to the top of the boom box correctly and you hear a 20 second song. The sample I received played, Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star. There is one drawback, the song only lasts 20 seconds. I would have much preferred that the entire song be played when correctly matched.

I had a music teacher who swore that children learned best when music was introduced into their lives. She'd make a little game out of everything we needed to retain and put it to song. Makes sense, after all, how do children learn the alphabet best? By singing the ABC song.

If your children are into hip hop music and you cringe every time your toddler hears an inappropriate word, it may be time to switch to something a little more friendly.

Auditions show everything. You'll have dancers who will have the choreography amazingly well and then fall into obscurity when it's time to freestyle. There's dancers whose ability at routines are pretty average but say 'freestyle' and you see a different creature altogether and they can really step it up.

The great thing about freestyle is that anything goes. So is there a way to be successful at freestyle during auditions? Because we've all been to auditions and the best freestyler hasn't got the part. In fact you can say that for all dance auditions ï¿½" it's not always the best dancers that get the part. And that's the biggest clue.

When it comes to freestyle just like with choreography you want to give the choreographer or whoever's making decisions exactly what they want. It is not always possible to know what they want. But often they'll give a clue. If they don't want high jazz kicks then donâ€™t give it to them even if yours are the best kicks in the world.

Sometimes though it may seem unfair a choreographer will be biased towards certain dance styles. It will usually be the dance styles that the choreographer is good at. You'll find that they'll usually choreograph in the same handful of genres.

So if you know that the choreographer is a big fan of hip-hop dance then freestyling at hip-hop will probably get their attention more than other dance styles. This is a general rule of course. If you're not amazing at the styles they do then by all means do other styles that you are better at in your freestyle.

I'd also recommend only doing dance styles that you're really good at unless there's not that much competition. For example if you can do some poppin but there's the USA's number one popper in the room then you might do yourself a favour by not poppin'! Unless you know you're amazing or can offer something very different.

So often I've been to auditions and there'll be bboys and bgirls who can barely do a freeze incorporating breakin' moves into their freestyle all while there are about 10 world-class breakers in the room! They just won't take notice! Versatility is great but know when to keep quiet about your skills until you're at a high standard.

Of course if you're at a high standard at a number of dance skills then it may make sense to showcase your versatility. But only if you're good and you know the competition.

If you're not that versatile just make sure that you go out and freestyle at what you can do ï¿½" and if you're what they're looking for you may just get the job!

There are many opinions surrounding the current state of HIP HOP music. Some people think Hip Hop is dead, some think it is alive and kicking. Others think it's on life support. Wether or not one chooses to acknowlegde it, the fact is, anything that lacks consciousness is either unconscious or dead. Hip Hop has very little conscious nowadays. So the comparison of the state of rap music to a person barely conscious on life-support would be an accurate analogy. HIP HOP IS IN A COMA!

I believe there are several distinct factors contributing to Hip Hops crumbling state. Lack of Historic appreciation, Demographic segregation, and the internet are just a few of the reasons. Follow along as we dig further into this serious matter.

Some experts say that "90's babies" are a big part of the problems facing the health of this music genre, that once described and entire culture. In every other form of music, when people mention their infuluences, they speak of the great artists of it's past. Neo soul singers will mension Lou Rawls, Marvin gaye, Billie Holiday, Nina Simone and other legendary artists.

Hip Hop used to be no different. The late Tupak Shakur spoke of Rakim, Big daddy Kane, and LL Kool Jay as being his great influences. Their styles and emotions were very evident in his music and his ryhme structure. Currently I don't believe that the top artists of our time are honest about their inspirations. T.I had once mensioned that he wasn't a real Outkast fan, nor did he listen to much up north music. However when I listen to his first CD, I clearly hear Tupac, Q-tip, Andre 3000, and Biggie Smalls influences.

As time passed in his career, his ryhme style simplified themselves, and I heard more of a southern style take presidence with similarities to Oomp Camp and 3-6 Mafia, etc. He seems to have immulated attributes of artists that immulate him, such as Young Jeezy, Rick Ross, Plies, etc.

Now if you listen to many interviews of todays popular rap artists, perticularly southern rap artists, they all seem to have a common fear of being intelligent and knowledgeable of the world, and of the history of Hip Hop.

Like Krsone said in his one his classic hits "WHY IS THAT?"

Ask yourselves this question-

What happened to the days of the past, when we admired the emcees for their intelligence?

Heres Another problem Hip Hop faces; It is the only form of music where we stereotype artists by their regions. This type of pigeonholing places limits on the artists and limits our own boundaries and imaginations. I honestly believe this problem came from the up north region's beliefs that they owned Hip Hop, and that no other regions contributions to rap were good enough or valid!

I feel this MIND-SET is DESTRUCTIVE and DOWN RIGHT SILLY to me, and an overall HENDERENCE to us as a people. See if it wasn't for Blues, Jazz, Scatting, Playing the Dozens, and other musical adaptations, from all over, THERE WOULD BE NO HIP HOP AT ALL!

I wonder what rap music would be like today if NEW YORK had embraced the West coast and Southern Hip Hop movements? What would the rap artists be like, and what would they rap about?? hmmm....

The internet is a two-edged sword, therefore it is a gift and a curse to the artform that was born in the "Boogie Down Bronx." If it wasn't for the web, I wouldn't have any knowledge of all the Undreground talent that is circulating around the country.

However the ability to freely download artists music, takes away from the profitability of records sales, and the artists themselves. This causes the big record labels to restructure the way they do business.

Artist development just isn't worth SQUAT for rap artists if Radio floods the airwaves with negative rap music, and TV viewing is saturated with negative images of blacks, and legitimized crap that companies promote on a daily basis. What we ACCEPT and LISTEN to has to CHANGE! This is a SIMPLE music for a SIMPLE GENERATION. They sell a rappers image through television commercials, ring tones, and give the atists gimmicky merchandise, they then sell this image to our materialistic youth.

They ride out the artists short career, then replace him by the next fiscal quarter with a slightly different version of himself.

Talk about "MILKING THE COW FOR ALL IT'S WORTH"

Young Up and coming rappers, see their peers apparent success, or what it's so called, and mindlessly follow this pipe-dream like lambs to the slaughter. This gives these life sucking brain washing money making machines a fresh supply of of nieve artists to (in a manner of speaking) chop into dollars!

There is a serious need to reform these conditions. Not only to save rap music, but to salvage the minds of our children. We as fans of this music, both male and female, man, women and child, must take a strict stand on what we watch, and listen to. Artists must stop selling out for a buck, and become uncomprimising in their freedom of self expression. Only then can Hip Hop as a culture truly change for the better!

This can happen as a result of us UNIFYING as one people, and CHANGING our traditional bad habits, and UPLIFTING ourselves. For if we don't CHANGE, our music will not CHANGE, and HIP HOP WILL STAY IN A COMA!

Sean "Diddy" Combs must have a mile-wide grin on his face this morning. That's because the hip-hop mogul's been seeing double these days. On next week's Billboard albums sales chart, one of Diddy's musical creations, Day26, will claim the #1 spot, debuting with week-one sales clocked at close to 190,000. This is just a week after Danity Kane, another Diddy-honed pop act, opened at #1.

Day 26-- the all-male R&B quintet formed during the fourth installment of MTV's "Making the Band" -- issued their inaugural, self-titled LP last week and somehow managed to outsell mega-emo act Panic at the Disco, whose new album, Pretty. Odd., opens at #2 with 139,000 units sold, according to the latest SoundScan totals. In fact, the chart's top three slots are all occupied by newcomers this week: Claiming the #3 position, with 106,300 copies snatched up, is the Counting Crows' new release, Saturday Nights & Sunday Mornings. The ladies of Danity Kane fall three spots from last week to #4 after selling another 88,700 copies of Welcome to the Dollhouse.

As for the rest of the top 10, it's mostly filled with the usual suspects. The 27th installment in the Now That's What I Call Music! compilation series sits in the #5 spot, with 67,100 scans, while Rick Ross' Trilla follows at #6, selling another 51,400 units. Jack Johnson's Sleep Through the Static falls three spots to #8, with 36,600 sold, and Flo Rida's Mail on Sunday drops five positions to #9, with 33,600 scans. And coming in at #10 is Sara Bareilles' Little Voice, which sold 31,200 copies.

All told, 20 new releases make their impact on next week's chart, including the only other newcomer to enter the chart's top 10: The Raconteurs' Consolers of the Lonely bows at #7, generating nearly 42,000 in sales. Coming from the mean streets of Atlanta, T.I. seemed to have the chips stacked against him.

Having to endure the violence in the Black community, the rapper whose real name is Clifford Harris seemed an unlikely candidate for stardom behind the microphone and on the silver screen and resorted to drug dealing to make ends meet.

However, the self-proclaimed "King of the South" turned hardship into heaven, as he conquered the entertainment world with films such as American Gangster and classic songs like "Motivation."

Despite enjoying enormous success and finding strength to overcome the brutal murder of his best friend, federal authorities arrested T.I. on October 13, 2007, as he was set to perform at the second annual BET HIP HOP AWARDS in Atlanta for giving cash to a bodyguard to buy firearms.

Facing a one year prison sentence, T.I. recently spoke with Toure' from BET to discuss his past mistakes, the young fans who admire him, and the paranoia that comes with being a visible celebrity.

"Everyone knew me and I knew no one ... you can't tell if a person is a fan or not until the (car) window winds down," T.I. explained.

Despite the dangers that come with superstardom, T.I. made no excuses for his past behaviors and used the 30-minute interview to speak out against the violence in the Black community and his position as a role model to the children who come from the same mean streets that he was able to overcome.

The multi-platinum rapper warned his young fans that going to jail for one year is not cool by any means. He talked about the money he will lose because of his incarceration and the lives of his family members, employees and artists that his actions affected.

A rapper who once glorified the violence in the Black community is now realizing that there is more to being a man than carrying a weapon.

"I must be a man and stand up and accept responsibility. I exercised extremely poor judgment and for that, I must be willing to pay the price that comes before me," he said.

With a new CD, a new baby and an upcoming marriage on the horizon, T.I. believes that this recent ordeal has given him a new perspective on life and he is determined to be a voice for children who come from the same environment as him.

For many years, hip-hop artists have been criticized for its vulgar and misogynistic lyrics, which some blame for the rise in violence in the Black community. Despite the criticism, many artists have been hesitant to take responsibilities for their actions as well as their lyrics.

However, T.I.'s run-in with the law at the height of his popularity has made the iconic rapper reevaluate his life and his affect on the younger generation.

During the BET interview, he warned a group of at-risk youth about allowing temporary emotions to ruin your life permanently.

The rapper admitted that temporary emotions is the cause of many his encounters with the law, and the reason for much of the violence in the Black community.

In addition, he is hoping that his recent mistakes can do a lot to solve some of problems facing the hip-hop community, especially the younger generation of hip-hop fans.

The Black family structure is under attack. From teenage pregnancies to dead-beat dads, what was once the strength of the Black community is now a glaring weakness.

What happened to Black male female relationships? Are the constant derogatory images seen across the media on a daily basis the cause for the so-called decline in positive Black male female relationships?

Almost since its inception, hip-hop culture has taken much of the blame for the lack of love that is sometimes shown in Black male female relationships. But is hip-hip culture really the blame?

On Wednesday, June 25 and Thursday, June 26 at 8:00 PM BET will air the first two segments of HIP VS. AMERICA II: WHERE DID THE LOVE GO?, the second installment of the popular town hall meetings brought about by the Don Imus controversy in 2007. The third segment of the series will air exclusively on BET ON BLAST.

According to BET, the town hall meeting hosted by BET News correspondent Jeff Johnson and hip-hop legend MC Lyte will focus on issues such as the images of women on television and music videos, misogyny in hip-hop, race vs. gender , Black male female relationships and the media's role in shaping the perception of African Americans amongst other cultures.

Author Kim Osorio believes the lack of female video directors leads to the negative depiction of women in some hip-hop videos. "We need to see more female directors, we need to see more female executives and we need to just diversify really what we are looking at. It's just one type of man that seems to be running the business of hip-hop," she said.

However, many rappers believe that they receive too much criticism for all that is negative in the entertainment business and turbulent Black male female relationships, and more emphasis should be placed on parenting instead of policing rap music.

"An artist's job is to voice the struggle to inspire a generation of leaders. It is wrong to put the job of raising children on the artist when it comes in the home first," said rapper Talib Kweli.

Furthermore, many Black celebrities feel that they have to overcome a double standard when it comes to portraying Black male female relationships on the screen as opposed to their White counterparts who seem to face far less criticism from their community.

Deelishis London Charles, winner of Flavor of Love 2 said, "if you watch The Bachelor and check them out, they're not only still married, they are expecting a child, and they're respected as having a serious relationship. However, when we did it, and I found my mate in that household, it was looked at as though it was 'toony' or it was a joke ..."

Nevertheless, others feel like the choices made by some Black women are causing the decline in Black male female relationships.

"I will say this to all the women: If you want to change what's going on--pick better mates. In most cases, with these men, you know what type of men they are when you lay down with them. You have to make a decision for yourself to pick a better mate. If you want to change this society, close your legs," said Mississippi rapper David Banner when asked about the problems confronting Black male female relationships.

Though not as plentiful or varied as the scene in Bangkok, Chiang Mai does have its own cool party venues. Choose from these nightlife places that target farangs (Westerners), or if you're more adventurous, try the local scene. Check out these popular bars and pub/restaurants.

Farang Scene When you ask about Chiang Mai discos, the first name on anyone's lips will be Bubbles (or Space Bubble) at the basement of Porn Ping Tower. Mentioned in many travel guide books, this nightspot is always crowded and plays loud thumping music. It gets a good mix of tourists and locals, including gays and lady boys.

The Riverside and The Good View are the most popular riverside pub cum restaurants among tourists and locals alike. These two are located side by side on the banks of the Ping River. You can enjoy waterfront dining, with live music from the local bands. They play mostly Western songs, with some local Thai songs.

Lyon - there's no "s" in French by Johnny Summerton

It's about 450kms from Paris to Lyon (or Lyons if your prefer in English) but forget about the four-and-a-half hour drive and instead save money, time and the environment by taking the high-speed TGV train service. After all, the journey time is just under two hours.
Added to which there's a regular service, although you'll need to reserve your seat in advance - a requirement when buying a ticket on a TGV - as even though ours was one of those double-decker jobs, it was packed. Clearly proof that plenty of people regularly commute between the two cities.

This was my first trip to Lyon - primarily to see a production of Porgy and Bess at the opera house. But it was also a chance for a glimpse at what's reputed to be one of the most beautiful of France's cities (the country's third largest) and something of a gastronomic paradise. Although I knew a late arrival and an early departure the following day wouldn't really give me the chance for any fine dining.

As fate would have it our arrival at Lyon's Part Diey station was heralded by the opening of the skies as the heavens fair chucked it down. This was a case of "April showers bringing forth more showers in May."

No it doesn't scan properly and it deviates from the original, but sadly it was the case and arriving umbrella-less meant standing in line for a taxi to take us to the hotel.

After checking in and freshening up it was time to jump into another taxi - yes it was still pouring - to make the short hop to the Opera house.

Now Lyon's Opera house is a grand old building, dating back to 1831 although it had a bit of a facelift in 1993 as part of a "modernisation" drive.

Unfortunately that seems to have resulted in a pretty dated look in the bits that have been updated with the interior of both the downstairs bar and the main auditorium boasting a wonderful black-red colour scheme - very much of its time.

Then there are the tiled shiny floors of glossy marble that turn into a veritable skating rink for those wearing leather-soled shoes the moment a spot of rain hits the surface.

No prizes for guessing who had squeezed himself into a brand new pair that turned into skates once his feet hit the ground.

On to the performance - which was sold out - and our third row black (plastic-backed of course) seats gave us a splendid view of the stage, a definite plus given the rather special nature of the production, because it wasn't just all about singing - as fabulous as the voices were.

The directors of this particular version were the choreographers José Montalvo and Dominique Hervieu, whose contemporary dance company would add an extra element to the opera.

That proved to be vital factot especially as George Gershwin's opera is long - very long - very far too long even for my opera-intolerant companion for the evening who insisted on trying to listen with eyes (and presumably ears) wide shut.

Mind you, I had to have some sympathy as apart from the frequently reprised "Summertime" and "Ain't necessarily so" there aren't a great deal of instantly familiar and hummable-alongable tunes.

The music was as brooding as ever and the vocal performances marvellous but what really sold this production - to me and most of the rest of the audience - were the dance and visual effects.

Both were spectacular. There were some exhausting yet evocatively hip-hop moves to reflect mood changes and interpret both the music and lyrics. A sort of double effect, complementary rather than repetitive.

The performances were electrifying and although sometimes they appeared perhaps a little clichéd they kept (most of) us on the edge of our seats mesmerised by not just the power and strength but also the grace and beauty.

An extra visual effect was the video backdrop - something of a Montalvo- Hervieu speciality.

It was sometimes a little disturbing particularly when showing recordings of the dancers doing exactly the same routines they were performing live, but purposefully just a little out of synchronisation.

Maybe it's just an age thing but there seemed to be a few too many assaults on the senses at the same time - very much an "MTV generation comes of age" sort of thing with the ethos seeming to be "let's sling everything at them (the audience) at once and see how they manage."

Mostly though the video worked magnificently, especially when it complemented something that was happening slightly off stage such as a bloody murder or a torrid love scene.

The bottom line was that the production wasn't one that could be listened to with eyes closed and fully deserved the rapturous applause it received at the end.

Ravenous after the performance it was up to the seventh floor for a late night, two-course meal. The set menu at €30 was all right but nothing special. There again at almost midnight there wasn't really any other alternative, so a return trip to Lyon will have to be made just to confirm that it lives up to its gastronomic reputation.

Fed and watered, strolled back to the hotel - hallelujah it had stopped raining.

If the Opera house left me questioning the tastes of Lyon's interior designers and architects, then our hotel - Beaux Arts - left me flummoxed.

It's officially now the Mercure Beaux Arts - part of the Accor group and therefore second only in the category of hotel to the chain's Sofitels. Maybe the price - €99 for a double room - should have signalled what to expect - nothing special.

While it describes itself as an Art Deco hotel, unfortunately it manages only offer a very poor copy of what could be the real thing. The sad fact is that the heart and soul of the place have been ripped out with no real thought of aesthetics.

Our room should have been a delightful tribute to the past. Instead it had been stripped of all its original features to the point where it was almost devoid of character. True it was vast in volume with floor-to-ceiling windows on two sides opening out on to small balconies. But a stale, musty smell hung around even with the windows flung wide open and the room wasn't made any more appealing by the mustard coloured, plastic lined full-length curtains.

The functional, durable, dull blue carpet only inspired a desire to tear it up to check whether it was hiding some glorious old parquet and the bathroom - well it really isn't worth mentioning. So I won't.

And it wasn't just our room that had been thoughtlessly "made-under." There were signs everywhere in the hotel of what "might have been" if only a little more TLC had been spread in renovating.

The winding staircase could have been creakingly magnificent but instead it had been thoughtlessly painted over. There was rendering on the indoor walls, which had then been daubed in a nondescript colour and even the tiny old-fashioned lift seemed sadly neglected although it should have been full of charm. There was just the occasional glimpse of what was missing in some of the original giant wooden frames.

But overall the impression was a miserable one. Shame on Accor hotels!

The group could and should take another look at what could be done to a fabulous old building to bring it up to the promise of the blurb.

On the plus side, and thankfully there is one, is its location. The hotel is bang in the heart of the peninsular between the cities two rivers (the Rhône and the Saone) and a few minutes walk from many of the tourist sites and some fabulous shopping.

The service was a bit hit and miss. Front desk had only one person on duty when we arrived and the poor guy, while friendly and efficient, had to split his time between answering guests' queries (such as booking us a taxi) and serving behind the bar.

Breakfast the following morning was rather a "unique" experience, which can best be described as offering "service with a grimace". The two ladies greeting the guests certainly seemed to be full of attitude - which from an onlooker's perspective was mildly amusing -although simultaneously they appeared totally overwhelmed by the number of people stumbling in to eat. Almost as though this was there first morning on the job. Perhaps it was.

They bustled about quite determinedly marching in and out of the kitchen with lists. But apart from taking down our room numbers (breakfast is never included in the price of a room in France and is always charged separately) seemed to do very little else.

Apart that is from scolding one guest, presumably still half asleep, for taking a cup from a pile next to the coffee machine.

"There are cups already on the table to use," was the information given by one "waitress" as she almost ripped the cup from the poor guy's hands.

Yikes. I guess nobody DARED question why there was a pile next to the coffee in the first place.

The food was passable. But for €14 a pop, I had been expecting something a little more wholesome than rubbery lukewarm omelette and manky sausages. Two words spring to mind RIP and OFF.

There was just time for a quick coffee outside the hotel and a spot of window shopping - on the whole stores open up for business at 10 o'clock - before taking a taxi to the station to catch our train back to Paris

And here's a word of warning when looking for a taxi in Lyon. Don't. It can be a real hassle for the visitor.

If you turn up at the nearest rank there's no guarantee you'll find a taxi. Even if there are a couple waiting with "available" lights illuminated, the drivers might simply not be around.

As there seems to be nothing to hail down on the streets of course, your best bet is to ask your hotel reception to book one for you.

Rake Leaves A favourite for children. Buy a children's leaf rake so that they can make leaf piles for jumping in. Once exhausted, put leaves in their mini-wheelbarrow and compost.

Plan for Next Year If your children have their own patch of garden, this is a great time for them to start thinking about what they would like to grow next year.

Bonfire If you have debris from the garden which is unsuitable for composting this can be the ideal time to have a garden bonfire if you have the room and bonfires are not restricted in your area. Take all sensible precautions and do not leave any children unattended whilst the bonfire is lit.

Clean out Nesting Boxes If you are lucky enough to have had a bird family resident in your nesting boxes, this is an excellent time to clean them out. If you need a new box, consider the Boogaloo Bird Bunk.

When international hiphop heads (mostly Americans) come to Denmark to play gigs, alot of musicians are interested in doing tracks with them or getting them to lay down a verse on their beats. Sometimes this is possible - sometimes you have to pay for it, sometimes you donâ€™t. The price range is typically around 500 $ - 5000 $ depending on how big the artist is. Now when you finally get the rapper/singer in the studio and it is time to do work, the problem occurs. After the money has passed hands, the artist usually has to conjure up some lyrics for the track.
Usually (but not typically), some of them have to get high before writing. That means they have to force something out of them that isnâ€™t there - I bet the weedsmoking is a desperate attempt to create inspiration or inspire creativity - either way, they have to write 16 bars about nothing. Thatâ€™s why, in most cases, we are left with a half-assed verse about who they are, how tough they are, who they rep, where they are - what country, a quick shoutout to the dudes who did the beat and/or the other rappers on the track (who they really donâ€™t know shit about). Thatâ€™s great - but not really that fun in the long run. But I mean, how creative can you be when you just performed for an hour on stage and go to a studio in the middle of the night - probably either drunk or high as hell. I wouldnâ€™t wanna waste my money on that. Not even to get a big name on my track.

I remember, some weeks ago. I was in the studio with Big Shug (from the Gangstaar foundation - funny ass guy btw), Jaysaun (Special Teamz) and Singapore Kane, recording some shit with one of my good friends. They had just performed at a nightclub and it was around 2-3 o clock in the morning. Now - they had to write a verse on the spot, and they did. Some better than others, but clearly the verses had been written in a hurry, without too much perfectionism (which is ok, considering the fact that you need to finish something in 20-30 minutes).

After that, they had to record it. And they did - in fact very swiftly. All in all a very professional way of handling things. Only problem was, the work they did was professional, but the result was half-hearted. How could it be anything but? They had no real knowledge about the guys they were doing a track with - this was work - to get that doe (thatâ€™s money for all you non-slang talking people). This is in no way a diss, but I say this because, you canâ€™ write something deep and heartfelt or even relevant in a matter of 20-30 minutes considering the circumstances (or at least only a select few people can do this). You donâ€™t have the time to piece the puzzle together, throw in some metaphores or a dope wordplay. Therefore - people I urge you to please donâ€™t write on the spot.

If you wanna do a track with international artists - send them the beat in advance. So they have time to figure out what they wanna say, and spit some relevant shit. While not a guarantee for a better result, the odds should have been greatly increased.
