The entertaining African music is now used in African hip hop to talk about the violence against women. The dancing also depicts the present condition of the country where there are a large number of HIV patients. People of Senegal brought hip hop into Africa and they are now striving to educate youth about the ways which will eventually lead to the development of the country.

American hip hop is less concerned about social messages and the American artists are taking steps to attract their audience. The dancing style is improving greatly and the other countries are adopting the same styles. The hip hop groups in America are formed with men and women who are capable to doing distinct hip hop steps. The world is astonished by the talents of the African American hip hop artists. Hip hop is now being used in Africa as a means for educating the people about their right. Sexual violence and violence against women are the key messages delivered through hip hop dancing. Ms. Tracy Atherton, welcome to the interview.

Q: What attracted you to the resort? Tracy: The Aman brand initially attracted me the resort and then when I can over to Bali for the interview I fell in love with the architecture, the people and the Balinese way of life.

Q: Any reason to call resort "Amankila"? Tracy: Aman means 'Peace' in Sanskrit and Kila is hill - therefore Amankila means 'Peaceful Hill'.

Q: Tell us something about the resort, location, how to get there, and the place itself? Tracy: The resort is set on a cliff edge overlooking the Lombok Strait on the East Coast of Bali. A majority of the suites have wonderful views out towards the ocean.

The resort is just over an hours drive from the International Airport and it's located in a very traditional part of Bali. The wonderful part of Amankila is that it has a mixture of the best parts of Bali - it has it's own private beach, wonderful snorkeling and diving areas and being in East Bali it also benefits from the real-side of Bali where you get to see the farmers tending to the rice fields daily and it really does take you back hundreds of years.

Q: All resorts furniture has obviously been painstakingly selected, tell us something about the interior design? Tracy: The resorts architect is a gentleman called Ed Tuttle who is based in France. Mr Tuttle not only designed the resort, he also designed all of the interiors. Having one person do both ensures that there is a flow throughout the entire resort.

He also designed the furniture and even which types of flowers we should use.

Learning Music Production from home is one of the most enjoyable things to do as a producer, you get to make your mistakes without any body knowing, you get to experiment without anybody seeing your tricks and techniques... Music Production is truly amazing. Suddenly in the past 5 years there has been a massive raise in the way Music Production is seen in the educational eyes and college and university courses have been popping up like hot cakes all over the world.

But is a college or university course in Music Production what you really need?

I think not, everything you can learn in Music Production you can learn from a single website that i found while browsing the internet a few months back. After studying a 3 year Degree in 'Commercial Music' i took on this course online and realized that everything i had been sitting down studying for 3 years was available in a program that takes a few months to do in your own time from home.

The topics range from Music Production, Music Strategies, Pop Music Culture, Hip hop, Music Entrepreneurship and so much more. The creative side is so down to you to be honest, only you can push you and to be honest.. 3 years of studying a degree like myself is not going to do any different than a short course can do for you in a few months. You need to take action for yourself.

You need to become an Entrepreneur in this day in age, being your own boss. Knowledge is the key to any Entrepreneur, so make sure you get your knowledge and know how up!

Visit the website - http://www.musicproducerpro.net

Gook luck in becoming that Entrepreneur.

Day 26 by Robert Williams

Sean "Diddy" Combs must have a mile-wide grin on his face this morning. That's because the hip-hop mogul's been seeing double these days. On next week's Billboard albums sales chart, one of Diddy's musical creations, Day26, will claim the #1 spot, debuting with week-one sales clocked at close to 190,000. This is just a week after Danity Kane, another Diddy-honed pop act, opened at #1.

Day 26-- the all-male R&B quintet formed during the fourth installment of MTV's "Making the Band" -- issued their inaugural, self-titled LP last week and somehow managed to outsell mega-emo act Panic at the Disco, whose new album, Pretty. Odd., opens at #2 with 139,000 units sold, according to the latest SoundScan totals. In fact, the chart's top three slots are all occupied by newcomers this week: Claiming the #3 position, with 106,300 copies snatched up, is the Counting Crows' new release, Saturday Nights & Sunday Mornings. The ladies of Danity Kane fall three spots from last week to #4 after selling another 88,700 copies of Welcome to the Dollhouse.

As for the rest of the top 10, it's mostly filled with the usual suspects. The 27th installment in the Now That's What I Call Music! compilation series sits in the #5 spot, with 67,100 scans, while Rick Ross' Trilla follows at #6, selling another 51,400 units. Jack Johnson's Sleep Through the Static falls three spots to #8, with 36,600 sold, and Flo Rida's Mail on Sunday drops five positions to #9, with 33,600 scans. And coming in at #10 is Sara Bareilles' Little Voice, which sold 31,200 copies.

All told, 20 new releases make their impact on next week's chart, including the only other newcomer to enter the chart's top 10: The Raconteurs' Consolers of the Lonely bows at #7, generating nearly 42,000 in sales. Elsewhere on the chart, the B-52's return with Funplex, which claims the #11 slot after selling a reported 29,600 copies. Enrique Iglesias' 95/08 debuts at #18, generating 22,400 scans.

Opening at #24 with 17,400 sold, it's WWE: The Music, Vol. 8, a compilation featuring the likes of Saliva, Airbourne and Disciple, and coming in at #33 with 15,800 copies flying off store shelves, is Simon and Garfunkel's Live 1969. Meanwhile, the Cavalera Conspiracy's Inflikted enters the chart at #72, with 9,000 sold, and Pennywise's Reason to Believe bows at #98 with 7,200 copies purchased. Former Smiths frontman Morrissey's Greatest Hits just makes the top 200 cut at #178, having sold 3,700 copies, and Starfield's I Will Go follows right behind at #179, selling 42 fewer copies.

Coming from the mean streets of Atlanta, T.I. seemed to have the chips stacked against him.

Having to endure the violence in the Black community, the rapper whose real name is Clifford Harris seemed an unlikely candidate for stardom behind the microphone and on the silver screen and resorted to drug dealing to make ends meet.

However, the self-proclaimed "King of the South" turned hardship into heaven, as he conquered the entertainment world with films such as American Gangster and classic songs like "Motivation."

Despite enjoying enormous success and finding strength to overcome the brutal murder of his best friend, federal authorities arrested T.I. on October 13, 2007, as he was set to perform at the second annual BET HIP HOP AWARDS in Atlanta for giving cash to a bodyguard to buy firearms.

Facing a one year prison sentence, T.I. recently spoke with Toure' from BET to discuss his past mistakes, the young fans who admire him, and the paranoia that comes with being a visible celebrity.

"Everyone knew me and I knew no one ... you can't tell if a person is a fan or not until the (car) window winds down," T.I. explained.

Despite the dangers that come with superstardom, T.I. made no excuses for his past behaviors and used the 30-minute interview to speak out against the violence in the Black community and his position as a role model to the children who come from the same mean streets that he was able to overcome.

The multi-platinum rapper warned his young fans that going to jail for one year is not cool by any means. He talked about the money he will lose because of his incarceration and the lives of his family members, employees and artists that his actions affected.

A rapper who once glorified the violence in the Black community is now realizing that there is more to being a man than carrying a weapon.

"I must be a man and stand up and accept responsibility. I exercised extremely poor judgment and for that, I must be willing to pay the price that comes before me," he said.

With a new CD, a new baby and an upcoming marriage on the horizon, T.I. believes that this recent ordeal has given him a new perspective on life and he is determined to be a voice for children who come from the same environment as him.

For many years, hip-hop artists have been criticized for its vulgar and misogynistic lyrics, which some blame for the rise in violence in the Black community. Despite the criticism, many artists have been hesitant to take responsibilities for their actions as well as their lyrics.

However, T.I.'s run-in with the law at the height of his popularity has made the iconic rapper reevaluate his life and his affect on the younger generation.

During the BET interview, he warned a group of at-risk youth about allowing temporary emotions to ruin your life permanently.

The rapper admitted that temporary emotions is the cause of many his encounters with the law, and the reason for much of the violence in the Black community.

In addition, he is hoping that his recent mistakes can do a lot to solve some of problems facing the hip-hop community, especially the younger generation of hip-hop fans.

Where Did the Love Go? by Todd A. Smith

The Black family structure is under attack. From teenage pregnancies to dead-beat dads, what was once the strength of the Black community is now a glaring weakness.

What happened to Black male female relationships? Are the constant derogatory images seen across the media on a daily basis the cause for the so-called decline in positive Black male female relationships?

Almost since its inception, hip-hop culture has taken much of the blame for the lack of love that is sometimes shown in Black male female relationships. But is hip-hip culture really the blame?

On Wednesday, June 25 and Thursday, June 26 at 8:00 PM BET will air the first two segments of HIP VS. AMERICA II: WHERE DID THE LOVE GO?, the second installment of the popular town hall meetings brought about by the Don Imus controversy in 2007. The third segment of the series will air exclusively on BET ON BLAST.

According to BET, the town hall meeting hosted by BET News correspondent Jeff Johnson and hip-hop legend MC Lyte will focus on issues such as the images of women on television and music videos, misogyny in hip-hop, race vs. gender , Black male female relationships and the media's role in shaping the perception of African Americans amongst other cultures.

Author Kim Osorio believes the lack of female video directors leads to the negative depiction of women in some hip-hop videos. "We need to see more female directors, we need to see more female executives and we need to just diversify really what we are looking at. It's just one type of man that seems to be running the business of hip-hop," she said.

However, many rappers believe that they receive too much criticism for all that is negative in the entertainment business and turbulent Black male female relationships, and more emphasis should be placed on parenting instead of policing rap music.

"An artist's job is to voice the struggle to inspire a generation of leaders. It is wrong to put the job of raising children on the artist when it comes in the home first," said rapper Talib Kweli.

Furthermore, many Black celebrities feel that they have to overcome a double standard when it comes to portraying Black male female relationships on the screen as opposed to their White counterparts who seem to face far less criticism from their community.

Deelishis London Charles, winner of Flavor of Love 2 said, "if you watch The Bachelor and check them out, they're not only still married, they are expecting a child, and they're respected as having a serious relationship. However, when we did it, and I found my mate in that household, it was looked at as though it was 'toony' or it was a joke ..."

Nevertheless, others feel like the choices made by some Black women are causing the decline in Black male female relationships.

"I will say this to all the women: If you want to change what's going on--pick better mates. In most cases, with these men, you know what type of men they are when you lay down with them. You have to make a decision for yourself to pick a better mate. If you want to change this society, close your legs," said Mississippi rapper David Banner when asked about the problems confronting Black male female relationships.

Bars, Pubs and Other Nightlife in Chiang Mai by Jaxon Toh

The Chiang Mai nightlife may look limited to newly arrived tourists. Well, they just do not know where to find the happening bars and pubs. Though not as plentiful or varied as the scene in Bangkok, Chiang Mai does have its own cool party venues. Choose from these nightlife places that target farangs (Westerners), or if you're more adventurous, try the local scene. Check out these popular bars and pub/restaurants.

Farang Scene When you ask about Chiang Mai discos, the first name on anyone's lips will be Bubbles (or Space Bubble) at the basement of Porn Ping Tower. Mentioned in many travel guide books, this nightspot is always crowded and plays loud thumping music. It gets a good mix of tourists and locals, including gays and lady boys.

The Riverside and The Good View are the most popular riverside pub cum restaurants among tourists and locals alike. These two are located side by side on the banks of the Ping River. You can enjoy waterfront dining, with live music from the local bands. They play mostly Western songs, with some local Thai songs.

In Betweens If you're looking for Chiang Mai nightlife with a little more local flavour, try Fine Thanks, a pub/restaurant on Nimmanhaemin Road. The usual crowds are mainly locals, with a few single tourists. The draw of this nightspot is the very attentive and sexily dressed team of young Thai waitresses.

Local Scene Here's why you should check out the local nightlife scene: young, beautiful and trendy Thais partying like there's no tomorrow! They are mostly students from the nearby universities in Chiang Mai, or young working adults. And the place to be is called Nimmanhaemin Road. There are two top clubs to see and be seen here.

The first stop is Warm Up. The huge premises are designed typical Chiang Mai style: restaurant on the outside, pub and disco on the inside. The live music from the band alternates with DJ spots. You get a mix of hip hop and Thai music. This club is always hip and happening with beautiful local crowds. Not many farang yet.

The second is Monkey Club, which is slightly smaller than Warm Up, also with similar design. It's a trendy establishment with a beautiful outside area. Inside, you have a live band playing with DJ spots too. This nightspot is also always crawling with the young and beautiful people of Chiang Mai.

As you know, the nightlife scene changes rapidly. Same same in Chiang Mai. The above information is correct as of early 2008.

Organically reared cows manufacture healthier milk asserts Newcastle by Emmanuel Raymond

This organic milk contained more good greasy acids like omega-3 and conjugated linoleic acid known as CLA9 than milk produced at comprehensive commercial dairy farms.

The difference was even more marked in the summer with levels of CLA9 about 60 pc higher in milk from cattle that graze in fields. The sampling of milk took place during 2004 and 2005 but the results were made public just yesterday in the book of Science of Food and Agriculture. "My interest now is that if we are able to improve the quality of milk we will also improve the health qualities of butter and cheese"Mrs servant announced. Organic cattle in the South of Britain spent almost all of their lives out of doorways but in the North and Scotland cattle are brought inside to live in outbuildings from the end of Sep or October, relying on rain and cold temperatures. Analysts discovered that by adding a mixture of soya beans, rapeseed and linseed to the daily food rations for each cow kept inside, milk quality improved and was equivalent to the milk from an outside cow eating a fresh grass diet. Further work is under way but Mrs servant believes the difference is linked to the quantity of clover in fields. Peter Melchett, policy director at the the organisation, announced : "This research attests what organic farmers and buyers have long said to be true. IF a decision was taken that all milk should be organic, how much additional land resources would be needed? Would it cut the NHS bill? Organic is the way forward, there's no reason we deserve to be rearing cattle on chemicals or growing our fruit and veg on chemicals eaither. We should always try to grow out food naturally. Organic is always better in everything I have tasted. Make some yoghurt with organic milk and some with non-organic. The organic milk comes up nice and firm, the non-organic is a runny mess. Cosmetic Surgery after Massive Weight Loss by Abigail Aaronson

Cosmetic surgery is usually performed on people who have recently lost a lot of weight which is actually a massive loss. It is not only for looks, but it can help you maintain your body's health as well.

Congrats! You've taken off the pounds! Now, it's time to think about getting some plastic surgery done.

Does that sound drastic? Most people who go through massive weight loss, whether through successful dieting or other changes get a plastic surgery done to get their body back into a more natural shape. Then, you can have a whole new you, thin and trim!

So, why do people get cosmetic surgery after massive weight loss, and what can be done? Let's look at some of the trouble spots and solutions.

*The "Spare Tire" Around Your Belly Has Turned Into a Deflated Tube

After massive weight loss, you may find that your once round belly has now become a layer of flab that hangs over your belt in a way you would prefer it didn't. This is when plastic surgery can help.

An abdominoplasty (AKA tummy tuck) in this area can greatly help in getting your belly back into shape. After that, it's all about push-ups, and you are on your own for that!

*Your Breasts Hang Down Past Your Belly Button

Lots of women want bigger breasts, but nobody wants giant, deflated balloons hanging from their chest. This is what often happens after extreme weight loss.

There are two solutions - Breast reduction, or breast augmentation. Breast reduction gets rid of the extra tissue and restores your chest to a normal size. If you are happy with the breasts, but just don't want them swinging so low, a little breast augmentation can make them perkier and more natural-looking.

The extra boobs can also be troublesome for men who have lost a lot of weight. For this, breast reduction is recommended. Get rid of the extra breast age and you don't have to be shy about shedding that shirt when you go for swimming.

- Your Butt Looks like A Deflated Inner tube.

It may sound funny, but it's not funny at all when it happens to you. After losing a lot of weight, many people find themselves with a lot left over in the place they want it least - the behind.

Don't worry, plastic surgery can help! The solution to this common problem is a "butt lift." It sounds like a hip hop dance craze, but it's actually a simple plastic surgery procedure that tucks in and removes tissue in the posterior region. It works like a face lift or body lift, simply adjusting the tissue underneath to give back a natural shape to your butts.

- You've Got The Hollow Cheeks Of Someone Who's Been Stranded On A Desert Island Living On Whatever They Can Catch With Their Hands

Often, after massive weight loss, you will have the hollow-cheeks starvation look. The cause is loose flesh and extra leftover tissue that doesn't know where to go.

Plastic surgery can help, by offering a minor face lift. This is standard procedure after massive weight loss. Raising the tissue underneath the skin will help your face look natural and healthy.

By the way, these cosmetic surgery solutions are not only cosmetic; they are also good for the overall health of your body. You will have firmer muscles, less loose tissue, and little trouble with rashes and other ailments caused by massive weight loss.

Let plastic surgery help you get your body back into the shape you want. If you have had a massive weight loss, the next step is to talk to a plastic surgeon and see what they can do for you.

Krakow Nightlife by Paul scottyn

The 'new Prague' of Eastern Europe, the cobbled streets of Krakow house more than the nostalgic cultural throng of local history and contemporary cafés. For Poland's capital and latest tourist sensation also boasts a mean nightlife that's up there with Europe's best.

Cheap entertainment

In excess of 100,000 students have made Krakow their term time home, which ensures that there are a wide variety of reasonably priced clubs, bars and pubs to make travelers of any persuasion feel at home. Travelers nursing their hangovers in youth hostels in krakow are never far away from their next nightspot, and there are plenty of ancient goodies to keep them entertained throughout the day, especially in the resplendent enclaves of the Old Town.

For all tastes

To get the evening going with a couple of drinks, the Old Town specializes in atmospheric bars known as 'piwnice' (atmospheric cellar bars). These are a great place - generally stumbled upon, rarely found - to have a few excellent local 'piwos' (beers).

As the night lengthens, Krakow really comes into its own for the variety and quality of its clubs. Whether rock, jazz or drum and bass, Krakow rarely disappoints: Club Fusion on ul. Florianska is a firm favorite with the international crowd, offering live music and DJ sets spanning, hip-hop, R&B and reggae. On ul. Bracka, meanwhile, Rdza attracts only the cream of the drum and bass crowd. For more mainstream dance and techno, backpackers are well advised to hop out of their Krakow hostels and take themselves to the popular yet swanky Club Prozak on pl. Dominikanski.

For a more relaxing blend of cool music and laidback vibes, travelers are advised to head over to the Art Club Bledne Kolo on ul. Bracka which switches between chill out house and reggae dub nights that will set them up for a long night's (or rather morning's) sleep.

The historic district of Old Town finds its nightlife equal in the Kazimierz district down to the southeast of the city. Here travelers have a wide selection of places to explore for a night of revelry, many of which are in interesting, quirky or just downright attractive setting

amaica: A Piece of Paradise by Rob James II

If you want to travel to the Caribbean, you certainly have no shortage of wonderful destinations from which to choose. One of the most popular places for tourists in the Caribbean, however, is Jamaica. The country of Jamaica is about 150 miles long and 50 miles wide, so it isn't huge, but it is mighty in the world of tourism, and is actually the third largest island in the Caribbean. It is found less than 100 miles south of Cuba and a little over 100 miles from Hispaniola, the island on which Haiti and the Dominican Republic as found. It was formally a possession of Spain, and late of the United Kingdom, but is now its own nation.

Although Jamaica is small, it has had a large cultural influence on the world. Reggae, ska, dancehall, and ragga are just a few of the many musical genres that originated in Jamaica. Jungle music in the United Kingdom and hip-hop in the United States are also largely accredited to the Jamaican immigrant population. The Rastafari movement also began in Jamaica.

When you are visiting Jamaica, there are a number of fun activities for you to do. Of course, like most other Caribbean islands, Jamaica is home to a number of beautiful beaches, so it is a real island paradise. While there, you can try diving, parasailing, boating, swimming, snorkeling, jet and water skiing, and surfing. Fishing is also very popular in the Jamaica, and you can see a variety of great planets and animals when you are visiting this island.

For those who are not interested in fun in the sun, the nightlife in Jamaica is also great. You can dance the night away in a number of clubs and visit bars to try some of the local drinks. The restaurants here serve both foreign and cultural cuisine, and shopping is great for tourists who want to pick up lots of gifts to take home.

If you plan to go to Jamaica on your next vacation, you can fly directly there or you can take a cruise through Caribbean islands. Make sure that you check with your airport to see what kinds of travel paperwork are required to visit Jamaica from your country and be prepared to experience this fun island culture by reading up on the many things you can see and do while there. Jamaica can be your own island paradise when you visit, so the vacation is definitely worth making the travel plans.

Cheap Timberland Shoes And Boots- How to find out if they're real?

With a lot of counterfeit stuff being sold these days, one of the concerns many people have is whether or not the boots they choose to buy are authentic or not. Albeit this is not a issue for a lot of people, many still only want to buy the authentic things and try to stay far away from many of the bootlegs. Thankfully, Timberland shoes and boots are equipped with a Style number. Timberland shoes can be found online for quite cheap as compared to their prices in stores. Often this is because the supplier buys in bulk and selling at a discount. Or another reason could also be that the individual simply wants to sell the boots irrespective of the selling price. Maybe because the shoe size was too for him/her, or it was just not their style.

However there are numerous Timberland Shoes copies sold online for a bargain original price. But, a great deal is not always a great deal when after winning the auction you find that there is no Style # to be found. If you happen to buy a timberland shoe that does not have a Style #, chances are that it is a bootleg. But if there is a style #, the item could still be not real. In a situation like this you can simply go to www.timberland.com and email them to inquire about the Style # and a description and shoe color. The customer service branch is amazing and I'm pretty sure they will undoubtedly check the style # with the item description.

So instead of the normal Britney songs that most probably thousand of myspace users have as their background music, stand out of the crowd and choose something that is fresh and new. Why would you want to use the same song as thousands other myspace users when you can actually choose something nicer and better from the Web?

If you are feeling creative, download a couple of tracks and sound effects and try tweaking them around such that you end up composing your own songs. As the purchaser, you have every right to do anything to the royalty free music. Even if you edit the tracks to death, no one is going to hunt you down.

Do not worry if you think royalty free music is going to sound 'cheap'. This is because there are actually famous composers out there that compose these royalty free songs and sell them as royalty free music. So, all you need to do is to choose the right kind of composers.

All royalty free music also provides you with a sneak preview so you can actually listen to the tracks before choosing the best one.

Royalty free music comes in all genres, from hip-hop, to classical and even rock. All you need to do is to choose one that suits your myspace profile theme best and you are good to go. Amaze everyone with a new kind of song and don't act surprised if a profile viewer commented that he likes your choice of background music.

Is Exercise a Dirty Word? by Pat Brill

Copyright (c) 2008 Pat Brill
We all know that exercising is an important part of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Yet...do we do it? What if you could give yourself permission to start small in your exercising efforts...and still feel good about yourself?

Exercise is essentially movement using various muscle groups. By this definition, almost any sort of activity can be considered exercise. The more your muscles and body work to keep going, the stronger they become.

There are many benefits to exercising, such as increased energy, weight loss, and even reducing the risk diseases such as Type 2 Diabetes and heart disease.

Before you begin any new exercise regimen, it is very important that you consult your doctor, start out slowly and increase your regimen in simple steps.

Start Exercising Slowly

Leading a healthy lifestyle means eating right, getting enough sleep, and exercising regularly. What do you do if exercise is that one thing that you can't bring yourself to follow through with on a regular basis? We lead busy lives and can always find a reason or two not to exercise. What if you allow yourself to start slowly? Think about these easy steps:

-Take an extra flight of stairs instead of the elevator.

-Instead of priding yourself in finding the closest parking spot, cheer yourself when you park a little further away and walk to your destination.

-Walk in place or do some stretching in front of the TV during commercials.

-Every hour or two, stop work and do some stretching.

-Reduce emails and phone calls and take a walk to speak with a co-worker.

-Walk around the block after lunch - this simple act will make a difference in your level of energy throughout the afternoon.

-Turn cleaning the house into an exercise experience.

-...and create your own list of 'muscle movements' throughout the day...just keep it simple.

Different Types of Exercising

If you are ready to start a formal fitness program in your life, find an activity that you enjoy doing. Don't choose an exercise program because everyone else in doing it. If you hate lifting weights or walking on the treadmill, find something that you love to do that gets you up and moving. You'll be far more successful if you like the activity.

There are different types of exercise including running, biking, aerobic classes, yoga, and walking. The best strategy for incorporating beneficial exercise into your lifestyle is to do a variety of exercises. For instance, a good exercise regimen will include both cardio (biking, swimming, running) with weight training.

How about Pilates? This form of exercising is low impact and gentle on the body. Pilates often focuses on the "core" muscles that are around your midsection. Pilates aims to tone and strengthen the body's muscles.

Another option to get you moving is to join a sports team. There are many types of sports that you can choose to play depending on your interests: basketball, soccer, volleyball, bowling, or baseball.

Group exercises are another choice that you can make when it comes to getting in your weekly quota of physical fitness. Some popular choices of group exercises include belly dancing, kickboxing, hip-hop dance, and all levels of step classes. When you exercise with a group of people you're often more motivated to keep going since being part of a group with the similar goal of getting in shape is a powerful incentive.

There are specific Chinese forms of exercise that you may want to explore:

-T'ai Chi. This form of Chinese exercise uses movement to achieve peace and harmony in your mind and body. -Yoga. Yoga uses certain body postures to reduce stress, promote relaxation, and relieve the physical symptoms of ill health.

-Martial arts. Use a variety of marital arts, such as Kung Fu, to incorporate exercise into your daily routine.

-Qi Gong. This form of Chinese activity combines breathing exercises and mental exercises to prevent as well as treat health problems and disease.

Final Thoughts

One mistake that many people make when they're deciding to get into shape is to tackle the entire concept of "fitness" at one time. Incorporating fitness into your life takes time and won't happen overnight. Your body, mind, and spirit need time to adjust to the many changes that will be happening as you start to add exercise to your daily routine. This is why fitness in small steps is so important and will ensure that you're less likely to quit when you become overwhelmed with the changes in your life.

Exercise is essential if you're going to lead and maintain a healthy life. Select your favorite form of exercise and stick with it so you can enjoy the benefits of a healthy body and mind.

Lyon - there's no "s" in French by Johnny Summerton

It's about 450kms from Paris to Lyon (or Lyons if your prefer in English) but forget about the four-and-a-half hour drive and instead save money, time and the environment by taking the high-speed TGV train service. After all, the journey time is just under two hours.
Added to which there's a regular service, although you'll need to reserve your seat in advance - a requirement when buying a ticket on a TGV - as even though ours was one of those double-decker jobs, it was packed. Clearly proof that plenty of people regularly commute between the two cities.

This was my first trip to Lyon - primarily to see a production of Porgy and Bess at the opera house. But it was also a chance for a glimpse at what's reputed to be one of the most beautiful of France's cities (the country's third largest) and something of a gastronomic paradise. Although I knew a late arrival and an early departure the following day wouldn't really give me the chance for any fine dining.

As fate would have it our arrival at Lyon's Part Diey station was heralded by the opening of the skies as the heavens fair chucked it down. This was a case of "April showers bringing forth more showers in May."

No it doesn't scan properly and it deviates from the original, but sadly it was the case and arriving umbrella-less meant standing in line for a taxi to take us to the hotel.

After checking in and freshening up it was time to jump into another taxi - yes it was still pouring - to make the short hop to the Opera house.

Now Lyon's Opera house is a grand old building, dating back to 1831 although it had a bit of a facelift in 1993 as part of a "modernisation" drive.

Unfortunately that seems to have resulted in a pretty dated look in the bits that have been updated with the interior of both the downstairs bar and the main auditorium boasting a wonderful black-red colour scheme - very much of its time.

Then there are the tiled shiny floors of glossy marble that turn into a veritable skating rink for those wearing leather-soled shoes the moment a spot of rain hits the surface.

No prizes for guessing who had squeezed himself into a brand new pair that turned into skates once his feet hit the ground.

On to the performance - which was sold out - and our third row black (plastic-backed of course) seats gave us a splendid view of the stage, a definite plus given the rather special nature of the production, because it wasn't just all about singing - as fabulous as the voices were.

The directors of this particular version were the choreographers José Montalvo and Dominique Hervieu, whose contemporary dance company would add an extra element to the opera.

That proved to be vital factot especially as George Gershwin's opera is long - very long - very far too long even for my opera-intolerant companion for the evening who insisted on trying to listen with eyes (and presumably ears) wide shut.

Mind you, I had to have some sympathy as apart from the frequently reprised "Summertime" and "Ain't necessarily so" there aren't a great deal of instantly familiar and hummable-alongable tunes.

The music was as brooding as ever and the vocal performances marvellous but what really sold this production - to me and most of the rest of the audience - were the dance and visual effects.

Both were spectacular. There were some exhausting yet evocatively hip-hop moves to reflect mood changes and interpret both the music and lyrics. A sort of double effect, complementary rather than repetitive.

The performances were electrifying and although sometimes they appeared perhaps a little clichéd they kept (most of) us on the edge of our seats mesmerised by not just the power and strength but also the grace and beauty.

An extra visual effect was the video backdrop - something of a Montalvo- Hervieu speciality.

It was sometimes a little disturbing particularly when showing recordings of the dancers doing exactly the same routines they were performing live, but purposefully just a little out of synchronisation.

Maybe it's just an age thing but there seemed to be a few too many assaults on the senses at the same time - very much an "MTV generation comes of age" sort of thing with the ethos seeming to be "let's sling everything at them (the audience) at once and see how they manage."

Mostly though the video worked magnificently, especially when it complemented something that was happening slightly off stage such as a bloody murder or a torrid love scene.

The bottom line was that the production wasn't one that could be listened to with eyes closed and fully deserved the rapturous applause it received at the end.

Ravenous after the performance it was up to the seventh floor for a late night, two-course meal. The set menu at €30 was all right but nothing special. There again at almost midnight there wasn't really any other alternative, so a return trip to Lyon will have to be made just to confirm that it lives up to its gastronomic reputation.

Fed and watered, strolled back to the hotel - hallelujah it had stopped raining.

If the Opera house left me questioning the tastes of Lyon's interior designers and architects, then our hotel - Beaux Arts - left me flummoxed.

It's officially now the Mercure Beaux Arts - part of the Accor group and therefore second only in the category of hotel to the chain's Sofitels. Maybe the price - €99 for a double room - should have signalled what to expect - nothing special.

While it describes itself as an Art Deco hotel, unfortunately it manages only offer a very poor copy of what could be the real thing. The sad fact is that the heart and soul of the place have been ripped out with no real thought of aesthetics.

Our room should have been a delightful tribute to the past. Instead it had been stripped of all its original features to the point where it was almost devoid of character. True it was vast in volume with floor-to-ceiling windows on two sides opening out on to small balconies. But a stale, musty smell hung around even with the windows flung wide open and the room wasn't made any more appealing by the mustard coloured, plastic lined full-length curtains.

The functional, durable, dull blue carpet only inspired a desire to tear it up to check whether it was hiding some glorious old parquet and the bathroom - well it really isn't worth mentioning. So I won't.

And it wasn't just our room that had been thoughtlessly "made-under." There were signs everywhere in the hotel of what "might have been" if only a little more TLC had been spread in renovating.

The winding staircase could have been creakingly magnificent but instead it had been thoughtlessly painted over. There was rendering on the indoor walls, which had then been daubed in a nondescript colour and even the tiny old-fashioned lift seemed sadly neglected although it should have been full of charm. There was just the occasional glimpse of what was missing in some of the original giant wooden frames.

But overall the impression was a miserable one. Shame on Accor hotels!

The group could and should take another look at what could be done to a fabulous old building to bring it up to the promise of the blurb.

On the plus side, and thankfully there is one, is its location. The hotel is bang in the heart of the peninsular between the cities two rivers (the Rhône and the Saone) and a few minutes walk from many of the tourist sites and some fabulous shopping.

The service was a bit hit and miss. Front desk had only one person on duty when we arrived and the poor guy, while friendly and efficient, had to split his time between answering guests' queries (such as booking us a taxi) and serving behind the bar.

Breakfast the following morning was rather a "unique" experience, which can best be described as offering "service with a grimace". The two ladies greeting the guests certainly seemed to be full of attitude - which from an onlooker's perspective was mildly amusing -although simultaneously they appeared totally overwhelmed by the number of people stumbling in to eat. Almost as though this was there first morning on the job. Perhaps it was.

They bustled about quite determinedly marching in and out of the kitchen with lists. But apart from taking down our room numbers (breakfast is never included in the price of a room in France and is always charged separately) seemed to do very little else.

Apart that is from scolding one guest, presumably still half asleep, for taking a cup from a pile next to the coffee machine.

"There are cups already on the table to use," was the information given by one "waitress" as she almost ripped the cup from the poor guy's hands.

Yikes. I guess nobody DARED question why there was a pile next to the coffee in the first place.

The food was passable. But for €14 a pop, I had been expecting something a little more wholesome than rubbery lukewarm omelette and manky sausages. Two words spring to mind RIP and OFF.

There was just time for a quick coffee outside the hotel and a spot of window shopping - on the whole stores open up for business at 10 o'clock - before taking a taxi to the station to catch our train back to Paris

And here's a word of warning when looking for a taxi in Lyon. Don't. It can be a real hassle for the visitor.

If you turn up at the nearest rank there's no guarantee you'll find a taxi. Even if there are a couple waiting with "available" lights illuminated, the drivers might simply not be around.

As there seems to be nothing to hail down on the streets of course, your best bet is to ask your hotel reception to book one for you.

Children's Gardening Calender by Caroline Blatchford

This Planting and Activities Calendar is handy guide for parents and grandparents on gardening with children. It includes suggested activities for each month of the year.

Gardening with children of all ages can be tremendous fun. The sense of anticipation and achievement which comes from growing things combined with being outside and working together makes gardening a fabulous family activity.

Planting and Activities Gardening Calendar

Feeding the Birds Many garden birds really need you during the winter. Put out food and break the ice on the water . This could be a good time to decorate your own bird feeder such as the the Hip Hop Bird Stop.

Digging A Bean Trench Dig a deep trench ready for runner beans. Put in a layer of rotted compost and then add vegetable peel etc. over the winter and cover with soil in the early spring. The children will enjoy digging with a children's spade and the task gives a clear message about recycling.

Plant Sweet Peas under cover. The seeds are large enough for children to handle easily and the abundance of flowers means that children can give them to teachers, family friends etc.

February

Mulching Let the children transport mulch around the garden in their kids wheelbarrow.

Nesting Boxes Put up nesting boxes such as the Boogaloo Bird Bunk.

Wash Pots and seed trays ready for use in Spring. A thoroughly messy activity for indoor or one of the warmer days in the month.

March

Strawberry Runners Planting a number of varieties of strawberries can prolong the harvesting period. A popular fruit with youngsters.

Summer Flowering Bulbs Plant bulbs such as Gladioli, Lilies and Begonias. Some will need to be started indoors whilst others can go outside. Striking flowers which children will love.

Greenhouse Planting If you have a greenhouse, tomatoes, sweet peppers, cucumbers, aubergines, celery and salads can all be planted. Children love to eat food which they have grown.

Onion Sets Plant onion sets (baby bulbs). If you dig the drills (mini trenches) a child can easily drop in the bulb and help to cover it.

April

Watering A favourite activity for young children. Depending on the weather, watering plants in pots and containers could be an enjoyable daily chore using a child sized watering can. If you have planted tomatoes etc. in a greenhouse, they will also need regular watering.

Sweet Peas If you missed the chance to plant them under cover in January, now is the time to consider planting them outside. Designing and building a wigwam style frame for sweet peas (or garden peas) is a fun activity for school aged children.

Weeding Not always a popular chore for adult gardeners but one which children often love. Choosing an area where the distinction between weeds and plants which you want to keep is clear can be a sound precaution!

May

Bedding Plants In most areas the ideal time to plant out bedding plants. A fantastic job for children to do because a moderately sized flowerbed can easily be transformed in under an hour. If possible, let the children choose some of the plants or colours. They will look after those ones with extra care.

Hedgehogs are very active this month and may welcome a little extra food. Avoid bread and milk because it does not reflect their natural diet. Uncooked minced meat with a raw egg provides a good alternative.

June

Daisy Chains Not strictly gardening but making daisy chains is fun.

Harvesting Many of the salad items planted in the greenhouse may now be ready to pick. Where possible let your children pick them and prepare them for tea. Then watch them glow with pride.

Sweet Peas need training up their supports.

July

Cut Flowers for bringing indoors and giving to friends and relatives as gifts from the children.

Sowing Seeds Late sowing of quick maturing vegetables such as radishes and baby carrots should still be possible.

August

Pick Crops Regularly pick crops such as tomatoes and courgettes to encourage new growth.

Mixing Compost Mixing grit or perlite with multipurpose compost is a slightly mucky task which is great fun for children.

September

Plant Spring Flowering Bulbs They may not be able to prepare the holes for spring flowering bulbs but kids will love dropping the bulbs into holes. Involving children in decisions about which colours to put where can help them to develop planning skills.

Plant a Tree If you want an extra tree or two in your garden and have the space, collect sycamore seeds and acorns and plant in large deep pots filled with seed compost and sprinkled on top with fine grit. Keepn them in a very sheltered area or even better a cold frame over winter.

October

Rake Leaves A favourite for children. Buy a children's leaf rake so that they can make leaf piles for jumping in. Once exhausted, put leaves in their mini-wheelbarrow and compost.

Plan for Next Year If your children have their own patch of garden, this is a great time for them to start thinking about what they would like to grow next year.

November

Bonfire If you have debris from the garden which is unsuitable for composting this can be the ideal time to have a garden bonfire if you have the room and bonfires are not restricted in your area. Take all sensible precautions and do not leave any children unattended whilst the bonfire is lit.

Clean out Nesting Boxes If you are lucky enough to have had a bird family resident in your nesting boxes, this is an excellent time to clean them out. If you need a new box, consider the Boogaloo Bird Bunk.

December

Christmas Decorations Collecting the materials for and making plant based Christmas decorations such as holly wreaths. Collecting and spraying fir cone with silver or gold paint is fun with older children.

House Plants Winter is a great time for encouraging children to take an interest in house plants.
