Hip hop and a culture identity by Andri Irawan

Among the others music genre, hip hop comes as the least new comer. Only in late of 1970s, hip hop was introduced in America. Ever since, hip hop represents more than just a music genre. It turns to be an image for American people and American culture. The story of hip hop is the story of American culture.
New York initiated the hip hop culture. In the '70s, hip hop music history began with the highly original and innovative approach New York DJs started using to highlight the amazing percussion riffs and other rhythmic drum breaks in popular funk and disco music played in clubs. At this point in history hip hop music and the growing club scene started recognizing the power and importance of big name DJs in their ability to draw big crowds. Then, DJ and hip hop can not be separated.

In a glance, hip hop it is hard to distinguish hip hop music from rap music. No wonder. They came in the same time and carried out by similar people. In the first introduction of hip hop music, the artists were also considered as rap artist. Some of well known hip hop artists today are eminem, 50 cent, chingy, ja rule, success artist jay z, kanye west, ludacris, missy elliot, outkast, and P.Diddy. hip hop today can also be used to deliver some humanitarian issues like what eminem and Kanye west have done. Eminem protested about the damage of war while kanye west criticizes about illegal diamond market in Africa.
